Evaluating competition policy risks

Assessing market power and the effects that commercial strategies have on customers and competition lies at the heart of competition policy in the postal sector.

Competition assessments form the basis of many regulatory decisions.  They are also increasingly important in a liberalised environment with new entrants challenging existing providers.

Our postal practice works closely with our competition practice on all aspects of competition policy at EC and national level, including:

  • market definition and market power;
  • merger analysis;
  • abuse of market power; and
  • state aid.

We assist in pre-empting issues, in producing and responding to technical analysis, in preparing client submissions and expert reports and in giving oral evidence.

Through this work, and close links with leading law firms in the UK and overseas, we have gained an in-depth understanding of the application of competition economics in legal and regulatory cases. This includes applying competition law in regulated industries.
